FAQs about the igus:bike project

How much does the igus:bike weigh?
We expect the weight to be around 17kg. Please keep in mind that the bike will be a city bike. It will offer an alternative to urban mobility; it is not intended to replace mountain bikes or racing bikes under any circumstances.

Will there be an e-bike version?
Yes, we are also working on an e-version. However, the release date has not yet been set.

How much will the bike cost?
The igus:bike made from recycled plastic will cost €1,200.

Where can you pre-order the bike without obligation?
You can pre-order the igus:bike here.

Why did igus start the motion plastics bike project?
We have been dreaming of a lubrication-free, rust-free bicycle made entirely of plastic for 15 years. We added the recycling approach later. This initial product and the igus:bike platform is intended to allow an additional type of bicycle production and, in the future, supply other parts such as wheel bearings, bottom brackets, gears, and sprockets made of plastic.

Where can I get more information?
On www.igus.bike.

Is this the final concept?
No, we're working on a final version. So far, concept bikes or prototypes have been shown at trade shows. The igus:bike is constantly being further developed by mtrl and igus employees.
